Division 1 – Classroom Updates

January is Going, Going, Gone

Where did the first month of the New Year go? Division 1 has been really busy with projects, sports teams, pajama day, MS Read-a-Thon and many other activities.
Both grades are now working on Egypt and Electricity. The grade sevens are focusing on Ancient Egypt and the the grade sixes are studying Egypt from a more modern perspective. They both have been given their project expectations, criteria and specific instructions. I will attach these to the Blog shortly so they have access to them at all times if they FORGET their work at school.
The Olympics are coming and we will be spending some time watching and working on lessons that focus on these games. I know the students are very excited and shared their experiences from last night as the torch traveled through our town.
Things to look forward to in February include: skating, Tubing at Harper Mountain, the Olympic Games, Teachers vs. Students Basketball Game and perhaps preparation for the new Parkcrest Talent Showcase.

January 11-15

Science Homework Division 1, don’t forget. You have a worksheet on electricity and a title page all due on Tuesday, January 12. The Respectful Relationship facilitators will be here Tuesday and Thursday afternoons again this week so be prepared to share in a respectful manner. Lots of basketball games and practices this week so make sure you bring your P.E. strip and uniforms. Lets put Parkcrest on the map with our great play and sportsmanship! We are starting our social studies unit on Egypt tomorrow so be ready for some note taking, and a look at the geography and natural resources of the country.

Welcome 2010

I hope everyone had a terrific holiday! This week we are starting a basketball unit which will coincide nicely with tryouts! Remember to bring your gym strip daily as intramurals are starting as well. We are finishing up our life sciences unit and will be moving on to Electricity. We will also be starting a unit on Egypt. Remember for homework that your Japan projects are due Thursday, January 7. Group presentations will be starting that day so be prepared.

December 1st is Here!

Where has the time gone? There are only 14 days of school left before the holidays begin. Lets get all our work done so we can enjoy the last few weeks. There will be a science test next Tuesday, December 8 so it is time to start reviewing your notes and assignments on ecosystems, biomes, the 5 Kingdoms, food chains and food webs, animal adaptations, the living and non-living environments and classification. We are also starting a small unit on Japan tomorrow which we will try to finish up before Christmas break.
Another reminder regarding gym strip. Please remember to bring it everyday as we do participate daily.
Christmas Concert will be here shortly and students are practicing diligently.

Skating Tomorrow!

Just a reminder that the class is going skating on Tuesday afternoon. Please remember to bring your skates, a helmet and warm clothing. We will be leaving right at the end of lunch.
Has everyone handed in everything? Report cards and marks are being compiled as I write this so make sure you have all your assignments in!
YP Concert is on Wednesday. I handed out Permission Slips today so make sure you return them ASAP.

Report Cards: Yes they are coming!

Yes, Report Card writing has begun. Students, please ensure all of your assignments are handed in and completed to the best of your abilities.
In Social Studies, we have completed five worksheets over the last 2 weeks that have looked at a variety of situations around the world. Ask your child about the Floating Schools in Bangladesh.
In Science, we are looking at the classification of living things and the predator-prey relationship. Make sure all of your questions are completed from the worksheets.
In P.E. we are almost finished our Volleyball unit. Please remember to bring your gym strip every day.
Don’t forget that Remembrance Day is next week. We have an assembly on Tuesday, November 10.

Happy Halloween

Have a safe and Happy Halloween! There are still a few of you who need to hand in your H.A.C.E. poster and your Rent A Ghost Brochure. You also have P.E. on Monday so don’t forget your gym strip. We need to work off all that candy you have eaten this weekend.

Class Update

Can you believe it is almost the end of October? I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
We are really starting to dive into the curriculum and students need to be prepared to work hard during class time. In Science we are looking at ecosystems and how livings things interact with each other. There will be a small quiz next Monday (October 26) on the vocab and notes we have taken the past 2 weeks so be prepared.

We are just starting a Volleyball unit. All students are required to bring gym strip in order to participate. Please ensure they have appropriate footwear and clothing daily for physical activity.

Social Studies projects will start shortly and I will post due dates here and encourage students to write them down in their agenda books. Both the Grade 6 and 7’s will be having an open note quiz on Thursday, October 22. It will cover Chapter 1 and 2 for both grades. Start reviewing your notes!

Welcome to Division 1

Well, classes are up and running! We have had a good start this week and I am looking forward to a productive and positive learning environment in the months ahead.
Reminders: Gym strip is mandatory, and students need to bring it on Monday, Thursdays, and every other Friday. I recommend that students bring it all week as there are lots of other activities like lunch hour Intramurals, Ground Pounders and Sports Teams that require gym strip.
